Slumdog star’s home demolished

ecember 30, 2009

Rubina Ali, child star of the Oscar-winning movie Slumdog Millionaire, watches as her shack in Mumbai is demolished.
Rubina’s autobiography, "Slumgirl Dreaming", was published earlier this year. Poor kid. Guess it doesn't compare to the mass hell in Haiti right now.

I think those shanty houses are against the local housing laws there too, I believe. One part of me believes these movie star kids are being used as propaganda because all you see is there tragic conditions, etc since the movie became a phenomenon. I mean, what does ANYBODY expect sending these "movie stars" back to squallier?

Of course historically, fame and fortune hasn't been that kind to child actors, but still. This situation with these kids in particular is fishy.

Sorta thinking the same thing. Her male child costar now lives in an apartment (no longer in the shanty area, ie. the hood) but we don't see pics of that. On IMDB.com, I found out that the director and producer first threw money at the situation (typical liberal thinking) but the Indian broker RAN off with it all. So they started a trust fund for the two child actors that pays for the schooling and a paid ride to school till they are 18 or through college. Don't fully recall but it was one or the other. Ahh, India...
